Goldberg Law Offices is a full-service law firm representing individuals, businesses and diverse organizations in two distinct practice areas: litigation and lobbying.
Founded in 1978 by Robert D. Goldberg and Thomas D. Goldberg, the firm has its roots in the practice started in 1935 by their father, William R. Goldberg.
William Goldberg operated the practice until 1968, when he became a judge in the Rhode Island Family Court. He retired as Chief Judge of the Family Court in 1987.
Robert Goldberg graduated from law school in 1976, followed two years later by his brother Thomas. Together they opened Goldberg Law Offices as a general practice firm in their father's former office, moving to their present Pawtucket, Rhode Island, location a few years later.
Originally, the firm focused primarily on workers' compensation and personal injury, but the scope of the practice has broadened significantly over the years. Currently, the practice is centered on all aspects of litigation, including wrongful death, personal injury, workers’ compensation, family law, business law, and regulatory issues, as well as criminal defense.
In 1991, Goldberg Law Offices entered the government relations and lobbying arena, representing GTECH and United Health Plan of New England as among its first clients. Today, a large majority of the practice is focused on government relations and lobbying. The firm has represented clients in the areas of gaming/lotteries, health care, insurance, entertainment, taxation, education, energy, environmental/regulatory issues, automotive, and industrial corporations, as well as various associations and general businesses. The firm has represented a number of high-profile clients. These include the Rhode Island General Assembly and prominent individuals in the state, as well as numerous national corporations, including Fortune 500 companies, in a wide variety of fields.
Goldberg Law Offices represented the plaintiff in a landmark case, Asermely v. Allstate, which significantly changed the law resulting in a clarification of an insurer's fiduciary obligation to the insured and a decisive victory for policyholders left unprotected by their carriers.
